14th Annual Triton Owners Tournament HUGE Success
Once again Kentucky Lake and Paris Landing were hosts to a GREAT Triton Owners Tournament. This year 331 teams battled bad weather at times over the two days of fishing to compete for the title of 2013 TOT Champion.
Triton owners started the tournament weekend on Thursday night with a banquet where over 60 anglers took home one of the many raffle prizes donated by the generous tournament sponsors. Friday morning started early with boat check and breakfast handed out to the competitors. The weigh in Friday afternoon brought in great bags of fish with 10 teams weighing in over 20 pounds. Anglers went to prep for the final day of the tournament and were ready to hit the lake Saturday morning. Saturday's weigh in saw more great fish as the teams returned from the water. The weigh in and expo area were full of anglers and family as everyone stayed to see who was going to take home 1st place.
That honor went to David Gnewikow and Jason Sain with a perfect two-day tournament limit weighing 44.10 pounds for a 4.41-pound average. For the win, they took home $7,500 in cash and a set of Carlisle trailer tires. The husband and wife team of Stephen and Tracy Whitehead finished in second place with 10 bass weighing 43.44 pounds topped by a 7.18-pound kicker. They also held second on Day 1 with 24.29 pounds. On the final day, they added 19.15 pounds and took home a check for $3,300.
Once all the fish were weighed, the final total for two days was 6,931.28 pounds. That is an amazing amount of fish and shows what an awesome fishery Kentucky Lake is. The tournament paid out 66 places plus awards for 1st and 2nd Big Fish and a Big Smallmouth award. David Hicks and Steve Higgins landed the tournament lunker, an 8.04-pounder, and were awarded the 1st Big Fish prize of $3,000. On top of the cash payouts, there were additional great raffle prizes given away on Saturday along with the top prize of the event – the draw boat. Stephen Crouse of Greenfield, TN was the lucky winner of the beautiful 21HP with Mercury 250 ProXS. The boat also included Lowrance electronics, MotorGuide trolling motor and an 8' Power Pole. The 2nd annual Tom Moody Memorial Scholarship was awarded to the highest finishing eligible fisherman, and was presented to Wesley Barnes. Wesley was offered a $5,000 scholarship to Bethel University and a spot on their nationally ranked fishing team.
Each of the Triton staff would like to thank all those who participated in this year's Triton Owners Tournament. This tournament would not be possible without all of our sponsors. Thank you to each company and organization that contributed this year. It is with your partnership that we had a record setting tournament. The 2014 Triton Owners Tournament will return to Kentucky Lake and Paris Landing on May 29-31. We can't wait to see everyone again next year!
