Posted: 11/19/2007

Team Triton angler Jeff Coble of Beaufort, NC finished strong on the final day of competition in the Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship. He moved from fourth place at the start of the day to earn the victory at Clarks Hill Reservoir near Augusta, GA. He brought in a bag that weighed 14.43 lbs to give him a four day total of 40.89. The Triton Gold Member earned $205,000 for the win. He said his patterns included a Spinnerbait, an Ultra-Vibe Worm that he swimmed, and a crankbait as well. He edged out William Kemp from Scotland Neck, NC who finished with 38.07, good enough for second place. Mike Hicks of Goochland, VA fell from the top of the leader board to third place, as he totaled 37.98.

The 45 year old angler will fish the Bassmaster Classic for the second time as the Weekend Series entrant. “My practice days were not that good” said Coble. “I never could get that big string during pre-fishing and the first three days of the tournament. I was around 8 or 9 lbs per day and feared that I would fall too far back.” Coble credits long time fishing friend David Wright, of Lexington, NC with assistance during tournaments. He said, “David and I formed an alliance about 11 years ago and share information and all of our earnings. David won a Stren event a few weeks back and pushed our shared total to over a million dollars.” Jeff has been asked many times why he doesn’t make an attempt at turning pro and fish the Elite Series. He said “Back when I had the desire, I didn’t have the means. Now that I have the means, I don’t have the desire.” Coble stated “I’m all about the Weekend Series.” After two wins in three Weekend Series Championships, perhaps the Series is “all about him”.
